The composite luminosity function of A 496 ?

چکیده
Deep photometric observations in three colours of the cluster A 496 show that the luminosity function is bimodal with a deep gap at g ∼ 19.0. That is there is a net separation between E/SO galaxies that are nicely fitted by a gaussian distribution curve and the dwarfs that better match a Shechter function. This is the first cluster observed and reduced out of a sample of 19 clusters which we have in our program. However comparison with the data of Virgo and Coma might suggest a correlation between cluster morphology and amplitude of the two distributions: normal and dwarf population. This would have strong implication for the understanding of cluster formation and evolution so that we are pursuing the estimate of the LF in various colours and to faint magnitudes both for low and high redshift clusters.

The galaxy luminosity function in clusters and the eld
We present the results from a CCD survey of the B-band luminosity functions of nine clusters of galaxies, and compare them to published photographic luminosity functions of nearby poor clusters like Virgo and Fornax and also to the eld luminosity function. We derive a composite luminosity function by taking the weighted mean of all the individual cluster luminosity functions; this composite lum...

Context. The faint-end slopes of galaxy luminosity functions (LFs) in clusters of galaxies have been observed in some cases to vary with clustercentric distance and should be influenced by physical processes (mergers, tides) affecting cluster galaxies. However, there is a wide disagreement on the values of the faint-end LF slopes, ranging from −1 to −2.3 in the magnitude range −18 < M r < −14. ...
متن کاملStiffness Prediction of Beech Wood Flour Polypropylene Composite by using Proper Fiber Orientation Distribution Function
One of the most famous methods to predict the stiffness of short fiber composites is micromechanical modeling. In this study, a Representative Volume Element (RVE) of a beech wood flour natural composite has been designed and the orientation averaging approach has been utilized to predict its stiffness tensor. The novelty of this work is in finding the proper fiber orientation distribution func...
متن کاملComparison between the frequencies of FML and composite cylindrical shells using beam modal function model
A comparison between the vibration of fiber-metal laminate (FML) and composite cylindrical shells has been studied in this manuscript. Love’s first approximation shell theory has been applied to obtain Strain-displacement relations. In addition, beam modal function model has been used to analyze the cylindrical shell with different boundary conditions. In this manuscript, the frequencies of FML...
